Maternity Test and Immigration DNA Test - Both are needed.

DNA is the key to unlock genetic questions or to confirm your biological doubts regarding a child. A maternity test similar to paternity test can also be conducted to confirm biological relation of a mother and a child.

The procedure of carrying out a maternity test is same as paternity test. To conduct the test the presumptive mother swabs her cheek for DNA samples and similarly the sample of a child will also be taken and will be send to the laboratory for maternity testing.

Maternity DNA test is usually preferred in two situations, legal or non-legal. In non-legal situation, maternity test can be performed at home as well for your satisfaction and peace of mind by collecting samples at home and send it to a laboratory. It is different in a legal situation, you must visit a laboratory and a trained person will collect your samples and will do complete paperwork. This legal situation is also important from the perspective of immigration as well.

Immigration DNA test is required when one is facing some difficulties in documenting a biological relationship for immigration cases. Such situation arises when a person is applying for residential status in U.S. or any other country and does not have a track of his/her birth certificates or family records.

It is to be noticed that U.S. Department of State/Bureau of Consular Affairs have laid 5 steps for anyone interested in supporting an immigration application for DNA testing which are as follows:-
1.     DNA sample should be in accordance with the standards of American Association of Blood Bank (AABB). Samples should be collected by a laboratory which conform to the standards of AABB.
2.     Sample of the applicant who has applied for residential status should be collected.
3.     After that the DNA testing kit will directly go to the consulate to prevent any deformity in the results and then the embassy will contact the applicant.
4.     Any AABB credited laboratory should collect samples of the U.S. based family members and submit the same to the main testing AABB lab. Before, the samples/kit is transferred to the consulate, part or full payment must be made as per the policies of the laboratory.
5.     The applicant will be given an appointment to appear before the U.S. Embassy or consulate along with applicant’s passport, photo and receipt showing the payment is complete for DNA collection.

After the results are received, the Embassy will contact the visa applicant to continue his or her visa application procedure for conclusion.

So, the importance of DNA tests have increased with times and is becoming a well-established procedure to conform to any legal or non-legal irregularities.
